How wallet verification works

If your crypto is in a wallet you control, rather than on an exchange, you prove it by signing a short message with that wallet. Scrya then reads the address’s balance from the public blockchain. Nothing is sent, and you never share your recovery phrase or private keys.

Verify a wallet, step by step

  1. In your portal, find the asset you’ve been asked to verify and click Start Verification.
  2. Under How would you like to verify your …?, choose Private wallet.
  3. Under Which wallet are you signing with?, pick your wallet. Scrya only lists wallets that can sign on that asset’s network, and opens a step-by-step guide for yours beside the form.
  4. Enter your address in the Your … Address field. Once the address is in the right format, your message appears under Message to Sign:.
  5. Sign the message:
    • One click (MetaMask, Phantom and Brave Wallet): click Connect & Sign with MetaMask (or Phantom, or Brave Wallet) and approve the requests in your wallet. The Signature field fills in for you.
    • Copy and paste (all other wallets): click Copy, sign the message in your wallet’s message-signing tool, then paste the signature into the Signature field.
  6. Click Submit for Verification.

The message you sign

Scrya’s server creates the message for your address. It’s a random one-time code: eight groups of four letters and numbers, joined by hyphens (for example 3F9A-07C2-…). It doesn’t include your name, your address, Scrya’s name or anything else about you or the reason for signing.

  • Sign it exactly as shown. If you change even one character, the signature won’t be valid.
  • It’s single-use and expires 15 minutes after it’s created. If you run out of time, click Back, pick your wallet again and enter your address to get a fresh message.

Why signing is safe

A message signature is not a transaction. It never goes to the blockchain, so it can’t move funds and there’s no network (gas) fee. Connecting MetaMask, Phantom or Brave Wallet only shares your public address. If your wallet ever asks you to send funds or pay a fee during this step, stop and contact support.

After you submit

Scrya checks your signature against your address the moment you submit.

  • It matches: you’ll see Ownership Verified, and the address shows Monitoring while Scrya reads its balance from the public blockchain, on your request’s network. This runs in the background and usually finishes within 15 minutes. You can close the window.
  • It doesn’t match, or the message expired before you submitted: you’ll see Verification Failed, and the address shows Failed with the reason. Click Start new verification, then sign the fresh message with the wallet that holds the address.

Once the balance is read:

  • Verified means you’re done. The business that asked can see the result, including the balance Scrya read.
  • Expired means the balance couldn’t be read within the 24-hour monitoring window. Click Start new verification to try again.
  • Need to change something while it’s monitoring? Click Recall submission, then submit again.

Troubleshooting

  • No message appears. Check the address suits your request’s network. A Tron address won’t work for USDT on Ethereum.
  • You see a reference like ERR-XXXX-XXXX. Click Try again. If it keeps happening, send the reference to support. See Error references.
  • Bitcoin Taproot addresses (starting bc1p) can’t be verified by signing, so Scrya shows a warning and no message for them. Use an address starting 1, 3 or bc1q.
