Verifying with MetaMask
MetaMask is a browser wallet for Ethereum and compatible networks. You log in to MetaMask and copy your address into Scrya once. After that, signing takes one click, with no copying or pasting of the message or signature. Signing is free and can’t move your funds.
What you can verify with MetaMask
| Network | Assets |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | ETH, USDC, USDT |
| BNB Smart Chain | USDC, USDT |
| Polygon | USDC, USDT |
| Arbitrum One | USDC, USDT |
| Base | USDC |
MetaMask can also show Bitcoin, Solana and Tron addresses, but Scrya only uses MetaMask on the networks above. For Solana, use Phantom or Brave Wallet. For Tron, choose TronLink in Scrya’s wallet list.
Before you start
- Open Scrya in the browser where MetaMask is installed, and log in to (unlock) MetaMask. Do this first: you need your address from MetaMask before the Connect & Sign button appears.
- Find your address. In MetaMask, click the shortened address under the account selector to copy it.
- Select the right account. MetaMask shares whichever account is currently selected, so switch to the account you’re verifying first.
You don’t need to switch MetaMask to your request’s network. The signature is the same whichever network is selected.
Sign with MetaMask
- On your request, click Start Verification, choose Private wallet, then choose MetaMask.
- Log in to MetaMask and copy your address (see Before you start). Paste it into the Your … address field. The message to sign and the Connect & Sign with MetaMask button appear only after you paste a valid address.
- Click Connect & Sign with MetaMask. A MetaMask window opens.
- Approve the connection. If the account MetaMask shows isn’t the one you’re verifying, switch accounts in MetaMask first, then approve. Connecting only shares your public address.
- Review and sign the message. Check it matches the message on Scrya, then approve the signature. This isn’t a transaction, so there’s no gas fee.
- You’ll see Signed as followed by your shortened address, and the Signature field is filled in. Check the fields, then click Submit for Verification.
Using a Ledger or Trezor through MetaMask? The steps are the same, but you approve the signature on your device. See Ledger.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing popped up. The button shows Opening MetaMask… while the window should appear. If no window opens, the page says so — click the MetaMask icon in your browser’s toolbar, where the request is waiting. The button then changes to Try again. Once the window is open, the button says Waiting for MetaMask….
- “MetaMask wasn’t detected in this browser”. Install MetaMask and reload the page, or open Scrya in the browser where MetaMask is installed. If Scrya finds another browser wallet it offers on your network, such as Phantom or Brave Wallet, it’ll tell you so you can go back and pick it.
- MetaMask is connected as a different address. Scrya checks the account before asking you to sign. Switch to the right account in MetaMask and Scrya picks up the change automatically. Or correct the address field.
- MetaMask already has a request open. Click the MetaMask icon and finish or reject the open request.
- You cancelled by mistake. Nothing was signed. Click Connect & Sign with MetaMask again.
- MetaMask lost its connection, often after an update. Reload the page and try again.
- The message expired. Messages last 15 minutes. Click Back, choose MetaMask again and re-enter your address.
- Your balance shows as zero. Your funds may be on a different network. See Choosing the right network.
