Verifying with Ledger

A Ledger keeps your keys on the device, and nothing is signed until you approve it there. Ledger Live can’t sign messages, so you sign through another wallet app connected to your Ledger. Which app you use depends on the network.

What you can verify with Ledger

NetworkAssetsSign through
BitcoinBTCElectrum (or Sparrow)
EthereumETH, USDC, USDTMetaMask
BNB Smart ChainUSDC, USDTMetaMask
PolygonUSDC, USDTMetaMask
Arbitrum OneUSDC, USDTMetaMask
BaseUSDCMetaMask

Scrya doesn’t support signing with a Ledger on Solana.

Bitcoin: sign through Electrum

You’ll need Electrum set up with your Ledger first. Use an address that holds your funds and appears in Electrum’s Addresses tab. Scrya reads the balance of that one address only.

  1. Copy the message. On your request, click Start Verification, choose Private wallet, then Ledger. Enter your Bitcoin address and click Copy next to the message.
  2. Connect your Ledger and open the Bitcoin app. Plug in and unlock your Ledger with your PIN. Scroll to the Bitcoin app with the buttons, then press both buttons to open it.
  3. Open the signing tool in Electrum. With your Ledger wallet loaded, choose Tools → Sign/verify message. Or right-click your address on the Addresses tab and choose Sign/verify message, which fills in the address for you.
  4. Paste the message and your address. Paste the message into the Message box. Enter the exact address you entered in Scrya.
  5. Click Sign, then approve on your Ledger. Your Ledger shows the message before anything is signed. Check it, then press both buttons to approve.
  6. Copy the signature back. Copy all of the signature from Electrum’s Signature box. Paste it into Scrya’s Signature field as a single line, then click Submit for Verification.

Prefer Sparrow? The steps are in Verifying with Sparrow. Approve on your Ledger when Sparrow asks.

Ethereum networks: sign through MetaMask

For Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum One and Base, connect your Ledger to MetaMask and choose MetaMask in Scrya’s wallet list. This gives you one-click signing.

  1. Connect your Ledger to MetaMask. In MetaMask, open the account menu and choose Add account or hardware wallet, then Add hardware wallet, then Ledger.
  2. Get your Ledger ready. Close Ledger Live, unlock your Ledger and open the Ethereum app.
  3. Select your Ledger account in MetaMask. Its address is the one you verify.
  4. Sign in Scrya. Click Start Verification, choose Private wallet, then MetaMask. Follow Verifying with MetaMask. When MetaMask asks for the signature, check the message on your Ledger’s screen and approve it on the device.

Troubleshooting

  • Electrum’s Sign button is greyed out or shows an error. Electrum can only sign with addresses from the open wallet. Check the address is one of this wallet’s own.
  • Your address starts with bc1p (Taproot). Scrya can’t verify Taproot addresses by signing. Use an address starting 1, 3 or bc1q.
  • Your Ledger doesn’t respond. Check it’s unlocked and the right app is open: Bitcoin for Electrum, or Ethereum for MetaMask. Close Ledger Live while you sign.
  • The signature is rejected. Copy the whole signature with no spaces or line breaks, and don’t edit the message.
  • The message expired. Messages last 15 minutes. Click Back, choose your wallet again and re-enter your address.
