Why am I being asked to verify?

A business you deal with wants to confirm that you hold certain crypto assets. It uses Scrya to run that check, so the request reaches you through Scrya on the business’s behalf.

What Scrya is

Scrya is an asset verification service. It lets a business confirm your holdings without you handing any crypto over. The business decides why it needs the check. If you’re not sure, ask the business directly.

Who sent the request

Every request names the business that asked for it. You’ll see its name:

  • in the email you received (see below)
  • in your Scrya portal, where the request reads Request from [business name] and shows a request number starting with VR-

The request number in the email matches the one in your portal.

The email you received

What you got depends on whether you already have a Scrya account.

If you’re new to Scrya, you get an invitation:

  • Subject: You’re invited to verify your assets with [business name]
  • Button: Accept Invitation & Create Account
  • The email says the link expires in 24 hours.

Accepting it sets up your account. Your request is waiting in your portal once you’re in. See Accepting your invite.

If you already have an account, you get a request email:

  • Subject: [business name] has requested asset verification
  • Details: Request ID, Requested by, Assets to verify, Request date, and sometimes a message from the business
  • Button: Complete Verification, which opens your portal

Links in these emails go to app.scrya.io.

What a verification does

For each asset on the request, you choose one of two methods:

  • Private wallet. You sign a short message with your wallet. This proves you control the address. Scrya then reads the address’s balance from the public blockchain.
  • Centralised exchange. You create a read-only API key at your exchange and paste it into Scrya. Scrya uses it to read your balance.

Not sure which to use? See Wallet or exchange: which should I choose?

What it doesn’t do

  • Scrya never takes custody of your crypto. Nothing is moved, sent, locked or withdrawn.
  • Signing isn’t a transaction. The message you sign is a random code of letters and numbers. It never goes on the blockchain and costs no network (gas) fee.
  • Exchange access is read-only. Scrya only asks for permission to view balances, never to trade or withdraw.
  • Scrya never asks for your seed phrase, recovery words or private key. Don’t share them with anyone.

The results go to the business that asked. See Your data and privacy for who can see what.

Weren’t expecting this?

The invitation email says you can safely ignore it if you weren’t expecting it. If you’re unsure whether a request is genuine, contact the business using details you already have, not details from the email.
