Verifying with Kraken
To verify a balance you hold on Kraken, you create an API key with only the Query Funds permission and paste it into Scrya. An API key is a pair of codes that lets an app look at your account without your password. No funds move.
What permission to choose
Tick Query Funds and nothing else. Scrya only asks Kraken for your account balance, and that’s the permission Kraken requires for it.
Never tick Deposit Funds, Withdraw Funds, Modify Orders or Cancel/Close Orders for Scrya. Scrya doesn’t need them. Keeping the key to Query Funds is up to you, so check it before you paste it in.
Scrya doesn’t need any of the other query or data permissions either, so leave them unticked.
Which balances Scrya counts
Scrya reads the balances Kraken reports for the account the key belongs to. Where Kraken lists some staked amounts separately under the same asset, Scrya adds them to your total. It may not count every kind of staked or earning balance, so check your Kraken balance if the result looks low.
Create the key on Kraken
- Sign in to Kraken Pro on the web — not the Kraken app. API keys are created under Settings → API on Kraken Pro.
- Click the profile icon (top right), then Settings.
- Open the API tab and click Create API key.
- Give the key a name you’ll recognise, such as “Scrya read-only”. Kraken needs each key’s name to be unique.
- Under the funds permissions, tick Query Funds only. Leave Deposit Funds, Withdraw Funds, and every Orders & Trades permission unticked.
- Leave IP Address Restriction off and the other advanced settings as they are.
- Click Generate key.
- Copy the API Key and the Private Key. Keep them safe, like a password. Paste the Private Key into Scrya’s API Secret field.
Use a new key just for Scrya. If another app, such as a tax tool, also uses the key, Kraken can reject Scrya’s check.
Add the key in Scrya
- Open your verification request and click Start Verification next to the asset.
- Choose Centralised exchange, then Kraken.
- Paste Kraken’s API Key into API Key.
- Paste Kraken’s Private Key into API Secret.
- Click Connect exchange.
Scrya encrypts the key and private key before storing them, then checks your balance straight away. When the check succeeds you’ll see Verified and your Verified balance. Click Close.
Verified with Kraken before? Scrya may offer a saved key under Use a saved API key or add a new one. Choose it and click Reuse and verify.
Should I restrict the key to an IP address?
No. Leave IP Address Restriction off. Scrya’s checks don’t come from one fixed address, so there’s nothing you could add, and Kraken rejects Scrya’s check if the key only works from certain addresses.
Troubleshooting
- Invalid credentials: the key or private key looks too short or contains characters keys don’t use. Copy the full value again.
- Couldn’t connect to Kraken: Kraken refused the key. Check you copied both values in full, pasted the Private Key (not the key name) into API Secret, and ticked Query Funds. If the message says the key is used by another app, create a new key just for Scrya.
- Balance lower than expected: some staked or earning balances may not be counted. See Which balances Scrya counts.
- Something went wrong on our side: this one’s on us. Note the reference (ERR-XXXX-XXXX) and see Error references.

Revoke the key
Once your verification shows Verified, you can delete the key. Go back to Settings, then the API tab, find the key you named for Scrya and delete it.
After that, Scrya can’t reuse the key, so you’d create a new one for a future request. Scrya deletes its own encrypted copy 30 days after your verification completes. See Revoking your API key.
