Verifying with Independent Reserve

To verify a balance you hold on Independent Reserve, you create a Read Only API key and paste it into Scrya. An API key is a pair of codes that lets an app look at your account without your password. No funds move.

What permission to choose

Independent Reserve offers four access types: Full Access, Trade, Read Only and Restricted Withdrawals. Choose Read Only. Scrya only asks for your account balances, and a Read Only key can do that.

Never choose Full Access, Trade or Restricted Withdrawals. Each of them can trade or withdraw. “Restricted Withdrawals” sounds safe, but it still lets the key withdraw to the addresses and bank accounts on your whitelist. Scrya doesn’t need any of this.

Create the key on Independent Reserve

  1. Sign in at independentreserve.com on the web.
  2. Select the profile icon (top right), then Settings.
  3. Open the API keys tab.
  4. Select Generate API key (top right).
  5. Choose Read Only as the access type.
  6. Enter a description you’ll recognise, such as “Scrya read-only”, and your password. Leave the IP address field empty (see below).
  7. Select Generate, then confirm with the SMS code Independent Reserve sends you.
  8. Copy the API key and API secret. You can’t view the secret again later, so copy it straight away.

Use a new key just for Scrya. If another app also uses the same key, Independent Reserve can reject Scrya’s check.

Add the key in Scrya

  1. Open your verification request in Scrya and select Start Verification next to the asset.
  2. Choose Centralised exchange, then Independent Reserve.
  3. Paste the key into API Key and the secret into API Secret. Select Show if you want to check nothing was cut off.
  4. Select Connect exchange.

Scrya encrypts the key and secret before storing them, then checks your balance straight away. It records only the balance of the asset you’re verifying. When the check succeeds you’ll see Monitoring progress, and you can select Close.

Verified with Independent Reserve before? You can pick a saved key and select Reuse and verify instead.

Should I restrict the key to an IP address?

Independent Reserve recommends limiting keys to a list of IP addresses, and rejects a restricted key used from anywhere else. For Scrya, leave the list empty: Scrya’s checks don’t come from one fixed address, so there’s nothing you could add, and a restricted key will fail.

An unrestricted Read Only key still can’t trade or withdraw, but it can show your balances and history, so keep it private. Independent Reserve also disables unrestricted keys left unused for 6 months. If a saved key stops working for a later request, create a new one.

Troubleshooting

  • Invalid credentials (before anything is sent): the key or secret looks too short or contains characters exchange keys don’t use. Copy the full value again.
  • Couldn’t connect to Independent Reserve: Independent Reserve refused the key. Check you copied both values in full, chose Read Only, and left the IP list empty. If the key is shared with another app, create a new one just for Scrya.
  • Something went wrong on our side: this one’s on us. Note the reference (ERR-XXXX-XXXX) and see Error references.

Revoke the key

Once your verification is complete, you can delete the key. Go back to Settings → API keys, find the key you made for Scrya and remove it.

After that, Scrya can’t reuse the key for a future request, so you’d create a new one. If you made a key that failed to connect, delete that one too. Scrya deletes its own encrypted copy 30 days after your verification completes. See Revoking your API key.
